The iconic Mt. Kilimanjaro.
It all begins with an idea. To climb the highest peak on the African continent. It’s ambitious. And it’s possible!
Many different routes to the top.
Kilimanjaro is actually a mountain range comprised of 3 volcano cones; Shira, Kibo, and Mwenzi. Kibo is the mountain that everyone climbs, and the name of the summit is Uhuru Peak, which means Freedom Peak in Swahili. Uhuru Peak is the highest point on the African continent. The third highest point in Africa is Mwenzi Peak of which the summit is called Hans Meyer Peak, though no climbing is authorized on Mwenzi or Shira.
There are many different routes to choose from to reach the summit of Kibo. Choosing the route that is best for you is important for both your enjoyment and success. Read more about each route in the links below.

Choose Your Route to the Top
Mweka Descent
This is the normal descent route for most trips on Kili and is not used to ascend except for porter resupply.
Shira Route
This route starts north of the Lemosho Route and joins it at Shira 2 Camp, however we do not recommended it because the start point altitude is too high to allow adequate acclimatization and would set you up for failure early in your climb. This route is mainly used as an emergency route for vehicle rescues.
